The Ardent Writer Press
The Birmingham Library’s Local Author Expo
The Ardent Writer Press participated in the Birmingham Library’s Local Author Expo on Saturday, February 2, 2013. Birmingham rolled out the red carpet for The Ardent Writer Press and over 100 other authors for this wonderful event. Not only was the public exposed to the works of so many creative minds who love the literary arts, but they served up a buffet of programs for the day.
Included was a touching discussion with author Carolyn Maull McKinstry, the courageous survivor of the Birmingham church bombings of 1963, a seminal moment in the Civil Rights Movement. It was a 14 year old Carolyn who received the call from an unidentified caller that announced the bomb was about to go off. Before she could alert the sanctuary, it exploded, killing 4 innocent girls. The author also discussed her story that was so thoughtfully recounted in While the World Watched. Though its tragic and evil basis can never be erased, it propelled many people to action who might not have otherwise helped bring about the necessary changes that now benefit our great nation.
Publisher Steve Gierhart attended with Ardent Writer Authors, Annie Laura Smith, Twilight of Honor (who was accompanied by her daughter, Laura) and Larry Williamson, Legend of the Tallassee Carbine.
